How to enclose your pool?

Are you considering buying a pool enclosure but not sure what to look for? What enclosure height should you choose? What’s the difference between solid and multi-wall polycarbonate, and how do they compare to glass? Read our article and gain a clearer picture.
Low, medium, or high enclosure?
Before purchasing a pool enclosure, it’s important to decide on the desired height. Low enclosures are ideal where you don’t want to disturb the natural appearance of your garden. Some models are installed so close to the water level that they are hardly noticeable – the Terra pool enclosure is a perfect example. Whenever you want to swim, simply slide the enclosure open. Higher enclosures include a side entrance for pool access. Some low enclosures, like the Elegant Neo, even allow for comfortable swimming underneath. Medium-height enclosures are even more suitable for swimming and free movement inside the pool. If you want to spend more leisure time inside the enclosure with family and friends, a high pool enclosure is the perfect solution. It allows movement around the pool, and no rain, wind, or bad weather will stop you from enjoying pool fun. High enclosures offer maximum comfort both in and around the pool – it’s essentially your own private pool house or mini water park.
Enclosure dimensions and number of segments
Low enclosures generally follow the exact shape of the pool. With medium and high enclosures, it’s advisable to allocate some extra space around the pool, so you can also sit and relax comfortably. High enclosures can accommodate garden furniture as well.
You’ll also need to decide how many segments (sections) the enclosure should consist of. One segment is typically about 2 meters wide. A 6-meter pool would then need 3 segments. The number of segments corresponds to the number of rails the enclosure slides on. We supply only safe, flat, walk-on rails that are 15 mm high and gentle on bare feet. Ideally, the rails should extend beyond the pool, allowing the enclosure to slide completely away from the water area. Besides standard double-track enclosures, we also offer models with a rail on only one side of the pool – such as the Viva enclosure – giving you barrier-free access from three sides.
Enclosure shape
Depending on your taste and the pool deck design, you can choose from various enclosure shapes – from straight and angular to fully curved or segmented arches, or combinations thereof. The Ravena enclosure is very popular for its hybrid shape: rectangular on one side and curved on the other, allowing comfortable movement along one side of the pool under the enclosure.
Type of polycarbonate
Polycarbonate is a unique thermoplastic with excellent mechanical, optical, and thermal properties. Compared to glass, it offers up to 200 times greater impact resistance. The enclosure frames can be filled with either 8 mm or 10 mm multi-wall or 3–4 mm solid (compact) polycarbonate panels. You can choose between single-wall, three-wall, or solid panels. Three-wall polycarbonate offers the best insulation. Solid polycarbonate panels are clear, while multi-wall panels have a frosted, matte appearance. You can also combine panel types within one enclosure – for instance, use multi-wall on the top to reduce heat loss and clear panels on the sides and ends to visually lighten the structure and maintain visibility into the pool. All polycarbonate panels come with UV protection to guard against harmful solar radiation. Solid panels are also treated with nanotechnology for added scratch resistance.
Enclosure color
Our highly durable aluminum profiles are available in several colors. The most popular choice among customers is anthracite, followed closely by bronze. Silver and white are also part of our standard color selection. All finishes are powder-coated and baked for extra durability and strong adhesion to the material. Upon request, we can supply enclosure profiles in any color from the RAL color chart.
Polycarbonate is most commonly available in clear or smoked finishes. Rails can be chosen in anodized/silver or bronze colors.
For your comfort
Access to the pool enclosure is provided via hinged or sliding doors. Sliding doors can be installed on the side as a secondary entrance or as an alternative to front-facing doors. For added comfort, you can also opt for electric operation of the enclosure segments. Movement is powered by two synchronized electric motors with remote control, secured by a safety lock. The advantage is that it’s a fully autonomous system using self-charging gel batteries. Terra Prime, Viva Prime, and eChampion pool enclosures come with motors as standard equipment.
